Autonomous Self-Organization and Anarchist Intervention
By Wolfi Landstreicher
Any potentially liberatory struggle among the exploited and dispossessed must be based on autonomous self-organization. As anarchists, who are also usually among the exploited, we have every reason to participate in and encourage these struggles. But since we have specific ideas of how we want to go about our struggles and a specifically revolutionary aim, our participation takes the form of an intervention seeking to move the struggles in a specific direction.
A classic of American Insurrectionary Anarchism, this text examines what it means to be anti politics and to live free in an unfree society, particularly in struggles against capitalism. Landstricher uses the self-organized revolts of Italy and Spain, the 1997 Albanian uprising, social upheaval in Bolivia and Argentina in the early 2000’s, and other historical examples to illustrate instances of anarchist intervention in social struggles.
