Nonviolence and Its Violent Consequences
William Meyers
Written in the midst of debates within the 1990's Earth First! movement about violence and nonviolence, William Meyers argues that nonviolent protest encourages violent reaction from the state. It would be hard to argue that this pamphlet favors violence, rather it examines what "violence" means and deconstructing the ideology of nonviolence. While using the old standby examples of Ghandi and Martin Luther King, Jr, Meyers also examines gray areas such as eco-sabotage and other issues effecting environmental activists.
